The Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Partnership with Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR)
The mission of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service is to:
- Provide quality merchandise and services of necessity and convenience toauthorized patrons at uniformly low prices.
- Generate reasonable earnings to supplement appropriated funds for the support of Army and Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreational Programs.
- The AAFES Board of Directors establishes the policy for determining profit distribution. This policy recognizes equal sharing between the Army and Air Force based on average troop strengths. AAFES retains its 50 percent for capitalization requirements.
- In recent years, several joint MWR/AAFES initiatives have resulted in the Services receiving additional dividends beyond the traditional 50/50 split. Examples include pay telephone concessions and Class Six packaged beverage operations. As an incentive for local management, the Army had directed thatAAFES distribute these dividends locally. It is called the Army Simplified Dividend. The Army's central fund, the Army MWR Fund, is the recipient of the traditional AAFES dividend.
